Salah is an important part of our lives. It is more than just body movements. It is about connecting with Allah. Salah is the nourishment of the soul. When the world gets too much, when our hardships begin to weigh us down, Salah should be our escape. It is just between you and Allah. During the beginning of our Salah, when we are reading Surah Fatiha, in translation, it is actually a dua that we are making for ourselves. In summary, Surah Fatiha asks for guidance and savior from misguidance as well as praising Allah and acknowledging His power.
However, Salah can be difficult to develop and maintain. Despite it being an obligatory act, it is still a struggle but that is where the test lies. Personally this is something I have struggled with. For me, the way I developed my five daily prayers was through baby steps. I used to pray just my Fardhs and from there I built upon it. It took me years. However, by Allah's Mercy, I was able to discipline myself into praying five times a day. Looking back, I understand why I struggled to pray. It is because I never understood what Salah really was. Through the past 2 or 3 years, I have gradually gained a deeper understanding behind the meaning of Salah. And once you comprehend its beauty, it motivates you to pray more. When you begin to include your Salah in your daily life, you will begin to see that it is something that you are unable to function without because it will become such a huge part of your life that you will not be able to miss one prayer. Just how we attach our hearts to this world, we must attach our hearts to our Salah and our Creator.
It doesn't matter how far you have strayed away from Salah, as long as you are still alive and breathing then it is not too late. One prayer can change your life in an unimaginable way.
